In a significant leadership change at the Indian Navy, Rear Admiral Rahul Vilas Gokhale assumed command of the Western Fleet in an impressive Ceremonial Parade on 23rd August. The officer took charge from Rear Admiral CR Praveen Nair and heralded a new era in the prestigious history of the fleet. He passed out from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Naval War College, and the Australian Defence College. His specialization in Navigation and Direction has seen him serve in other important assignments, both at sea and onshore.

In his naval career, Rear Admiral Gokhale has had the distinction of commanding many frontline vessels, including INS Khukri and INS Kolkata, and the base depot ship INS Circars.
