Lieutenant General Daljit Singh, DGAFMS and Senior Colonel Commandant, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) paid a farewell visit to the Army Medical Corps units located in the Pune-Khadki complex, consisting of visits to the Command Hospital Pune, Army Institute of Cardio Thoracic Sciences, AICTS, and Military Hospital, Khadki as the organization bid a teary goodbye to his illustrious career in military medicine.
Lt. Gen Singh inspected the facilities and operational preparedness of all the medical units during his visit. He ensured that the quality of medical services administered by these premier institutions was evaluated. He acclaimed the commitment and high standards of care with which the medical staff treats military personnel and their families. All such sites form part of the chain that ensures quality health care for the armed forces-from clinic to special treatments.
Lt Gen Singh further stressed that the factor which, in general, had played a critical role in keeping the overall effectiveness and morale of the Indian Armed Forces on a high pedestal was the medical services. He also hailed as milestones the continuous, day-to-day efforts made to develop medical facilities and healthcare services, the daily clinical duties to groundbreaking medical research and training programs.
He said the officers and men of the AMC had greatly contributed to his journey to greatness. “You proved to be an inspiration to me during my tenure. I request you all to continue to maintain high standards of patient care and continue medical innovations,” Lt Gen Singh said in his farewell address. He sought cooperation from the staff while admitting that the well-being of defence personnel and their families remain the top priority for the Indian Army. He underscored that the AMC units play a significant role in achieving this goal by following outstanding medical practices.
Indeed, the tenure of Lt Gen Singh as the DGAFMS witnessed some of the most significant advancements in military healthcare. And under his leadership, the legacy of the medical services sector has taken a very solid stand. But this visit was not only a goodbye, but it was also an occasion to underscore the endurance of military medicine in providing for the health of the nation’s defenders. The Pune-Khadki complex, with its state-of-the-art medical units, has remained a vital asset in maintaining the operational efficiency and welfare of the Indian Armed Forces.
