Air Marshal Tejbir Singh Assumes Role as Senior Air Staff Officer of Training Command

His leadership is anticipated to bring about significant advancements in the training and operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

Air Marshal Tejbir Singh took over as Senior Air Staff Officer, Training Command of the IAF with effect from September 1, 2024. An officer with an illustrious career in the flying branch since December 1988, Air Marshal Singh comes with vast experience to the new assignment with over 7,000 flying hours to his credit on combat and airlift operations. An A3 qualified flying instructor and an alumnus of the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK, Air Marshal Singh has thus given a distinguished performance in both command and staff appointments in over 36 years of impeccable service in the IAF.

Air Marshal Singh has had an important role in various significant operations and endeavours of the Air Force during his tenure. Foremost among them was that he led the induction of the C-130J ‘Super Hercules aircraft into the IAF, which was arguably the most significant boost to the operational capability of the Air Force. He is also credited with being the first to land on the world’s highest airstrip, Daulat Beg Oldie in Ladakh, showing his skills in conducting complex aerial operations under difficult conditions.

Prior to this appointment, Air Marshal Singh served at Air Headquarters, wherein he was deeply involved in planning air mobility operations, inclusive of essential HADR missions within and outside the country. His efforts in these appointments have amply augmented the rapid response and relief operational capability of the IAF, making him a highly regarded professional with dedication to excellence in aviation and operational preparedness.

As the SASO of Training Command, Air Marshal Singh is expected to come with vast experience and insight into strategic thinking for developing training protocols and preparedness among IAF personnel. He is likely to strive to shape the Air Force to meet contemporary challenges with the same level of commitment and expertise that marked his career. Under his leadership, the Indian Air Force is likely to achieve landmark improvements in training and operational capabilities, making the force truly ready and effective.
