The Honourable Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, today inaugurated the 41st Indian Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. This three-day conference, to be held from 24 to 26 September, will bring the ICG’s senior commanders together to discuss issues that are of the utmost importance for ensuring India’s maritime interests.
Shri Rajnath Singh welcomed the participants and appreciated the ICG for its professional rigidity and very important contribution to maritime safety and security. He reminded everyone that the ICG has been playing a critical role in securing India’s long coastline and countering rising maritime challenges.
It plans to discuss a range of strategic issues to enhance operational readiness, respond to emerging maritime threats, integrate maritime technological advancements, better coordination with other naval and maritime agencies, and find strategies to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure as well as response capabilities.
This develop would aptly articulate the intent of the Government of India to empower the Coast Guard to assume a more effective operational mandate in the maritime security framework that it contributes to its national defense. The issuance of discussions and outcomes of the conference will, therefore, permanently settle the role of the ICG as an indispensable player in mainstreaming regional maritime stability and security.
